The challenge
The client’s existing Data Warehouse architecture was archaic and complex to maintain, and they have a strategic vision of wanting to leverage data to make informed decisions from a client, supply chain and corporate governance perspective.
The solution
With the problems of distributed data and distributed governance in mind, Blackbook executed a comprehensive health check and audit of their existing architecture to identify risks, priorities and strategic opportunities. Following this, Blackbook designed a modern DataOps process and Data & Analytics Platform to improve time-to-market and end user experiences within the organisation. To ensure business and process continuity, this was achieved in a step process approach to Azure Synapse, via Azure SQL Database.
The outcomes
The comprehensive Data Warehouse Audit results were used to understand the current and future risks and opportunities and were used to inform the future pathways and how these pathways were presented to the organisation.
The phased approach meant that the organisation was approaching their adoption of cloud analytics at a pace that suited them. Alongside the technical changes from SQL Database & Data Factory to Azure Synapse, a new DataOps process delivers changes more quickly with fewer errors. As a result, the organisation is ready for self-service analytics, and they have a clear roadmap in place (and underway!) for Machine Learning and MLOps.
